The story
The king's problem isn't impotence. It's poison.
Hilwyn is a healer of noble birth who hates everything the aristocracy expects of her. Her newest patient is King Lucien, and the chronic poisoning he's suffering from has been misread as impotence. To keep his secret and get everyone off his back about marrying, Lucien proposes a contract marriage. The terms are eighty thousand gold coins, separate lives, and neither of them meddling. They bicker constantly, but there's a real bond growing under it. Hilwyn puts everything on the line to clear the poison from his body and proves herself in front of the royal court, and Lucien goes from ice cold to fiercely possessive. Then he rips up the contract and tells her how he feels. Will she give up the freedom she fought so hard for?
