The story

Briar gave her elite dragon flight everything, and her fiance Silas most of all, and was repaid with betrayal, stripped rank and a slow death. Death does not take. She wakes a few days earlier and turns her back on the lot of them. They are still laughing at her unawakened dragon, which is convenient, because Briar is about to unleash a mythical power nobody has seen in centuries.
