Viscountess Melris wants back the huge fortune her grandfather left, and she's desperate enough to gamble for it at a masquerade ball. There she seduces a mysterious attendant with silver hair and red eyes, hoping to get pregnant so she can use the child to secure what's hers. But he's no attendant. He's Eric, a grand general who is ruthless, unhinged and enjoys killing. Now he won't stop coming after her, and Melris has to fool everyone, stay a step ahead of her scoundrel of a husband and get rid of the maidservant scheming against her, all while trying to survive a game that was her idea in the first place.
