Audrey hides being a chief executive to protect Cornell's pride, and quietly does the work that lands him a major hotel project and then the top job at the hotel itself. She builds the ladder and watches him climb it. Then his first love Cecilia comes back, and the pressure Audrey is under, most of it from Cornell, starts pointing her toward a divorce. After enough humiliation she works out what she is worth and what she has spent it on.
