The story

Lord Julian Thornfield turns Adeline and installs her as a replacement, and even his daughter Eve calls her Mama. When Adeline tries to end it, Eve's strange power throws all three of them a hundred years into the past, where Julian is not a cruel lord yet. He is a scarred human slave in a circus cage, whipped as a monster. Adeline means to hand the child back and go, and the girl's broken heart holds her there. Then the caged man asks who she is.
