Serafina meets Onyx Stormfire again three years on at the Grand Clan Gathering, with another woman beside him. Nobody knows she once gave up half her own fire to keep him alive, then pretended to fall for his younger brother Corin so he would stop looking for the truth. The divided flame has left her unable to shift and the rest of it is going out. She has come back to see him once. Then Corin tells him, and Onyx risks everything to reach her.
